According to one award-triumphing dealer, more moderen industry entrants formed by the tumult of the past numerous years have been left more resilient and more acceptable to thrive because of it. “When it’s simply alternate, you roll with the punches. You recognize that if it’s getting harder for me, it’s getting tougher for each dealer and more difficult for the banks. Bartlett is weeks from passing the $1bn milestones in mortgage settlements. He attributes a big part of his success to his holistic approach of presenting clients with mortgages and empowering them with accurate information about the method they’re using.

“I’m all about educating the customer right from the beginning. When someone walks in the door, there’s not often communication about hobby charges. There’s a verbal exchange around, ‘What are you doing now? In five years? In ten years? How can we design a mortgage for you?’

“My customers recognize to constantly come lower back to me because they recognize they were given something unique out of that verbal exchange than the notion they had been going to get. Because of that, I get a lot of referrals,” he defined.

According to Josh, being named the 2018 Australian Mortgage Awards’ broker of the 12 months’ helped bolster his referrals and use, making it even less complicated for his referral associate to direct borrowers to him.
